Forest Retreat
With gas prices increasing, airlines canceling flights, and a struggling local economy, getting away from it all has become more of a challenge. Why not stay close and enjoy a nearby escape that feels a million miles away?

Surrounded by 99,000 acres of forest, rolling hills, spring fed creeks, wildlife and offering unlimited amounts of fresh air, the Forest Retreat is a diamond in the rough. Tucked away in the woods on the edge of the Homochitto Forest between McComb, MS and Natchez MS, the Forest Retreat is comprised of four charming, secluded treehouse-style cabins.

Pristine waters from a spring fed creek are perfect for cooling off and picnicking, a well-stocked fishing lake is minutes away, and of course, there’s always historic Natchez if you’re looking for a day trip.

Built in the early 1990’s and owned by documentary filmmaker Bess Carrick, the cabins were designed and furnished by the noted architectural and historical specialist Don Didier. Didier traveled far and wide to find the unique Adirondack furniture for the house interiors. Each is filled with modern conveniences, including air conditioning, a modern bath and a kitchen stocked with cooking utensils which is appreciated given that the closest restaurant is 30 minutes away.

Carrick created the Forest Retreat out of a desire to create a haven for writers, artists, romantics or anyone seeking inspiration and solitude. The getaway is a favorite among cyclists, novelists, poets, bird watchers, hikers, adventurers and those who just want to be left alone.  With no phones, television, internet connection or children allowed, tranquility is just a couple of hours away.

A cabin at the Forest Retreat is $100 a night during the week and $325 for a two night weekend stay. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 601-225-4975 or emailing info@forestretreat.com.
